Sarah Walker

Sarah Walker is a Geelong-based writer, artist and photographer.

Her writing is primarily creative nonfiction, considering issues of anxiety, control and intimacy. She has written for Meanjin and The Age, reviews arts for the Australian Book Review and co-hosted the podcast Contact Mic.

Her art practice uses comedy, narrative and speculative fiction to create surprising encounters with tensions around death, disaster and catastrophe. She works particularly with immersive binaural sound works, video and text-based installation. She was a finalist in the 2019 international MTV RE:DEFINE award and the 45downstairs Emerging Artist Award, and has taken part in residencies across Australia and Asia. She has an MFA from RMIT.

She is one of Australia’s most respected commercial theatre and festival photographers, shooting for hundreds of clients across Australia and the world, including Melbourne Festival, MTC, Malthouse Theatre, Chunky Move, Arts House, Rawcus, Back to Back, Melbourne Fringe Festival and Next Wave Festival. Her work is on permanent display at Arts House in Melbourne.

Sarah Walker is a participant in the panel discussion, bringing a knowledge of working regionally in Geelong as an independent, multi-disciplinary artist as well as working nationally and internationally in many different contexts.
